ESL or Geography? I can help with both! I have extensive experience!
Israel was created after World War II as a "homeland" for the displaced Jews of Europe. The area has an extensive history of Jewish religion and culture so it was logical for the Allied Forces to carve out a state there. The only problem was it was land already claimed by Arab Palestinians who also have a long history of religion and culture there. Jerusalem has always been a holy place for Islam, Judaism and Christianity so even though Israel claims it as their capital it is also considered the capital of the former state of Palestine. Hence you have two competing religions claiming it with both having a valid argument to it. The main problem now is what was left of Palestinian territory, the Left Bank of the Jordan river, is constantly and deliberately being settled by Jews who formally conceded it did not belong exclusively to them. So as Arab land disappears Palestinians feel more and more victimized by the Western Powers refusal to stop Israel from gobbling up what land there is left that they believe belongs to them.
