Every producer and mix engineer has a different opinion on this.
Generally speaking, it is ideal to keep your sample rate and bit depth high so that all your audio is recorded with transparency instead of being immediately downgraded on the way into your system. That said, recording with a sample rate of 96k is excessive for most production purposes.
If you're recording pop music (anything that is a song with a lead vocal), 441.k 16bit or 48k 24bit should work great for you!
