What is the best sample rate and bit depth?

Every producer and mix engineer has a different opinion on this.

Generally speaking, it is ideal to keep your sample rate and bit depth high so that all your audio is recorded with transparency instead of being immediately downgraded on the way into your system. That said, recording with a sample rate of 96k is excessive for most production purposes.

If you're recording pop music (anything that is a song with a lead vocal), 441.k 16bit or 48k 24bit should work great for you!

There is no easy answer for this, So much depends on your software, computer and the type of music you are recording. 48/24 is pretty standard for most. If you are recording orchestral you would need to use 96 to capture the high end of string and such reliably. More info would make this easier to answer but I'd start with 48/24 or maybe even 44/16 if you don't have the processing power. Hope this helps,

Depends on what you're doing/hope to achieve; however, a good place to begin for professional music / film production is 24 bit 48khz.
