Should I choose KRK Rokit 5 or Yamaha HS5?

I have experience with both of these monitors and find that the Yamaha HS5 has more of a flat overall sound that works well for nice even mixes as to where the KRK Rocket 5 carries more low end. The Yamahas in my opinion, are better for training your mixing and production ear which will lead to stronger and more consistent mixes. Hope this helps and you find what works best for you!

In general if you you are mixing or mastering you want to go with a set of monitors with a flat frequency response. This is important because some monitors are boosted in certain areas of the frequency spectrum. Monitors with a flat frequency response will give you an honest representation of the sound you are hearing. Another important thing to consider when shopping for monitors is your room the monitors will be placed in. You can buy the best monitors available and put them in a poorly treated room and end up with mixes that don't translate on all audio systems, Personally I would invest more money in acoustic treatment than monitors if you are just starting out. A poorly treated room can skew the sound and cause you to make mixing and mastering decision based on the deficiencies of the room.

To be honest it totally depends on if you're producing, mixing or even just using them to listen to music. I would personally suggest using the Yamaha HS5 if your mixing and mastering. I own and use the Yamaha HS7 in the studio and in my own home studio.

Hey there! If possible, i would go to a local music store that carries them both and do a sound test to see which feel best to you!

From my experience, KRK Rokit 5 tend to be a bit bass heavy, which can feel great in the moment when you're creating depending on the type of music you're making, but can be misleading if you're planning on mixing your music on them. You may end up with a mix that actually lacks lowend presence because you've been hearing it though speakers that naturally boost those lower frequencies. If you're planning on having someone else mix your music and you want speakers that are going to give you the satisfaction of having that bass boost, go for it! Whatever helps your creative process.

I've worked out of countless home and professional studios that had the Yamaha HS5 which is generally a good indicator that the speakers are a good all around choice. I personally would go for the Yamaha's between the two :)
