Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

I grew up in a musical household. My Dad was a jazz pioneer who insisted on my classical training. I studied classical piano for 10 years, and growing up had drum, trumpet, bassoon, saxophone, guitar, bass, and vocal instruction as well. Truth be told I kinda sucked at most of them, because my heart just wasn't in it; however, as local musicians began to come to my basement studio my orchestration, and music theory skills became obvious. Over the years those composition skills have earned me 4 Billboard Top 100 Credits, and my production (composition, songwriting, production, and engineering) team has collectively sold over 15 Millions records. I am constantly around today's movers and shakers. Over the last couple of months alone I met with Jimmy Douglass (Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, Duran Duran, The Rolling Stones, Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin...), Young Guru (Jay-Z's Recording Engineer), and Jimmy Jam (Producer/Songwriter.. half of the hitmaking team for Janet Jackson and many others). Some of the areas I will cover include: Preparation... How to set the tone for the work you will be doing. Song structure, and formulas... If it ain't broke... don't fix it, and when and how to successfully break the rules. Colors, and tones... putting it all together so it makes sense. Creating a space for your vocalist, or lead instrument, and much, much more! Wouldn't you agree that you owe it to yourself to learn from an accomplished composer? I'm a published hitmaker. No brainer... Request me. It's easy.

Songwriting

Songwriting

I learned songwriting from my Dad who was not only a music professor, but also an accomplished jazz pioneer who worked with greats like Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway, and more... I am a published composer & songwriting member of the SESAC performing rights organization, and have written songs that have gone on to become hit records earning me 4 billboard top 100's on the R&B, Pop, and Hip-Hop charts. My production team has collectively sold over 15 Millions records in the US alone. Years of working in the studio alongside composing and writing heavyweights has taught me volumes, and I share it all unselfishly. Along the way I have honed, and developed many singers, songwriters, and rappers allowing them to create works that move people. Songwriters I am currently working in the studio with include producer Barb Morrison, The current Miss New York Hazel Pascual, and Pure Heat Entertainment's own indy rapper Messiah all of which are learning my methods. Accept the challenge... Our areas of focus will include. Grabbing your audience's attention. The important components of a great song. The importance of developing good songwriting habits, and how. Song structure, formulas, and you. Finding your lane... I will patiently teach you these things and much more!

Excellent teacher, advisor and producer

Can't recommend highly enough. Eternal meets you wherever you are in your career, professionally and creatively. I needed guidance with the technical side of my tracks, i.e. mixing, mastering, sound building, etc. Within just two or three lessons, my beats were bumping so much larger, drums cutting through the mix and everything finding a sonic place. I had the tools to sharpen my ear on my own time. He's a patient guide and very knowledgeable about all things music production. Some of the many skills I've picked up from Eternal: gainstaging, building sounds from scratch in Serum (including a killer plugg kick and 808), EQ, Compression, Chorus, Distortion and Overdrive, synth design, music marketing and brand building. I continue to meet with E whenever I can. I think this professional relationship will continue for many years. Highly recommend. But don't blow him up too much: he still needs time for my weekly :)

Best Mixing Teacher on Here

Funny, experienced, knowledgeable, patient, and explains concepts until you understand. Had multiple tutors on Wyzant for mixing and music production and Eternal is miles ahead. I almost don’t want to write this review so y’all don’t find out about him!

Knowledgeable, Skilled, and Fun

Eternal was great! He is everything I was looking for in a tutor and more. His understanding of Ableton is extremely impressive as well as his ability to simply, and effectively, explain all aspects of the DAW. I'm glad I was able to find a tutor like him on my first try. Looking forward to future lessons.

Talented, Fun, & caring tutor

Eternal is a very talented person and enjoyable to have as a teacher. He has a laid back approach that makes you feel at ease when you're trying to learn something new. He was very helpful at taking me through Logic Pro X to recreate anthemic-style music for a commercial for my composition in an advertising course.
