If each mile is $2.50 you can solve either by repeatedly adding $2.50, six times; 2.50 + 2.50 + 2.50 + 2.50 + 2.50 + 2.50.
Or you can solve by multiplying 2.50 x 6. When dealing with multiplying decimals, a good rule of thumb is multiply without moving or bringing down the decimal, just multiply as if the problem is 250 x 6. Then, once you get the answer, you want to make sure that the decimal is the same number of numbers over to the left as there are in the original problem. So, the decimal should only have two numbers to its right in the answer.
