How many ounces of pure acid should be added to 40 oz. of 50% acid to make 60% acid solution?

Hello Tigerlilly -

 

This is just ratios. 20/40 is .5 or 50%.

 

So you need (20+x)/(40+x) = 0.6

 

that's 24 + 0.6x = 20 + x

 

So x = 10.

 

Add 10 oz and you'll have 30 over 50 which is 60%/.

 

Easy, right? :)
