Whenever you multiply a mixed number times a fraction that is less than 1, your answer will be less than the mixed number.
So 1/8 X 2 5/6, 1/2 X 2 5/6 and 5/6 X 2 5/6 will all be less than 2 5/6.
Only 2 5/6 X 2 5/6 will be greater than 2 5/6.
Your teacher will want you to justify your answer by showing your work. In order to multiply by a mixed number you need to first convert it to an improper fraction. Your denominator is 6 so each 1 is 6/6. You have 2 ones so you have 2 X 6/6 + 5/6 or 12/6 + 5/6 or 17/6.
Now multiply 1/8 X 17/6. Your product is 17/48 which is less than 1/2.
Next multiply 1/2 X 17/6. Your product is 17/12 or 1 5/12 which is less than 2.
Next multiply 5/6 X 17/6. Your product is 65/36 or 1 29/36 which is less than 2.
Finally multiply 17/6 X 17/6. Your product is 8 1/36.
