Try 1 quarter which means there are 2 nickels and the rest of the coins is dimes (30 minus 1 minus 2 = 27 dimes). The values are 25 + 10 + 270 which has a sum of $3.05 which is too low.
Try 3 quarters which means there are 6 nickels and 21 dimes (30 minus 3 minus 6). The values are 75 + 30 + 210 which has a sum of $3.15.
The total value went up by only 10 cents, so...
Try 7 quarters which means 14 nickels and 9 dimes (30 minus 7 minus 14 = 9). The values are 175 + 70 + 90 which has a sum of $3.35.
