Yield percentages

Question

A recipe calls for 8 whole, peeled pears. Another recipe calls for 3.0 lbs of pears peeled, cored and sliced. Is the yield percent the same? If not, estimate the trim percentages in each case.

Per wikipedia, the average pear weighs 178 grams.

So 8 pears * 178 grams/1 pear * 1 kg/1000 grams * 2.23 lbs/ 1 kg = 3.17552... pounds

vs 3 pounds of pears, peeled and CORED..

So the weights are comparable...
