5 1/2 times 2/3 because he drove 2/3 of the time and usual if you can say of it means multiply. So you would need to make 5 1/2 into an improper fraction or fraction greater than one. To do this you multiply the whole number by the denominator and add it to the numerator to create a new numerator, 5 x 2= 10 plus 1 = 11 so the improper fraction would be 11/2 now you multiply that by 2/3. 11/2 x 2/3, first multiply numerators 11 x 2 = 22 then multiply denominators 2 x 3 = 6 now create the new fraction 22/6. Now you have to turn that back into a mixed number by finding out how many times 6 goes into 22 or 22 divided by 6 = 3 with remainder 4. The 3 is the whole number and the remainder becomes the numerator, 3 4/6, which can be simplified to 3 2/3. So Rick drove for 3 2/3 hours.

If its 5.5 hours, convert that to minutes to get 330. 2/3 or (.66 repeated) of 330 is 219 minutes of the 330 total minutes. Convert that back to hours and Rick drove 3.6 hours.03/06/19
