As I am sure you are aware, the diameter is always two times the radius. This is important because to determine the area of a circle, you want to know the radius. Therefore, the radius of the circle in your problem is seven inches.
The formula determining the area of a circle is as follows:
A = π r2 where A equals area, π is equal to 3.14, and r is the radius. Therefore,
A = π r2
A = 3.14(7)2
A = 3.14(49)
A = 153.86 squared inches
