Alan’s aunt bakes a large loaf of bread and a small loaf of bread. She cuts each loaf into tenths and gives Alan 3 tenths of each loaf to take home. Alan writes the equation 3/10 + 3/10= 6/10 to show the amount of bread he takes home. Explain Alan’s mistake.

He did not simplify the fraction to it's lowest terms: 6/10 = 3/5

Secondly, we need to know the sizes of each loaf of bread.

1/10 of the large loaf is NOT the same as 1/10 of the small loaf.
