Here's the pattern....
starts with 3...
subtracts 9, so 3-9 = -6
Adds twice as much which is 18, so -6 + 18 = 12
subtracts 8.... so 12-8 = 4
adds twice as much which is 16, so 4 + 16 = 20
the next step is to subtract 7.... so 20 - 7 = 13.
Then adds twice as much which is 14, so 13 +14 = 27
then subtracts 6... so 27-6 = 21
then adds twice as much which is 12, so 21+12 = 33
So the sequence is 3,-6, 12, 4, 20, 13, 27, 21, 33, 28, 38, 34, 42, 39, 45, 43, 47, 46, 48, 48, 48, 49, 47
