Seventy percent of the compound was sodium chloride. If 660 grams of other chemicals were used, what was the total weight of the compound?

Please explain! I get very confused on word problems.

If 70% of the compound was sodium chloride, then the other 30% is 660 grams.

 

 

So, 3 out of 10 (30%) is 660 g.  Then 10 out of 10 (100%) would be... 

 

 

You could also set up proportion to find the total mass: 660 g/30% = x/100%
