Hi Lydia. So the way I would approach this problem is to list out the things we know:
Perimeter =100 cm
Length = 3x + 5
Width = 2x
And, if we recall from class that Perimeter = the boundary of the figure or in other words,
Perimeter = Length + Length + Width + Width
if we condense that
Perimter = 2(Length) + 2(Width)
Now we can see how the answer forms. If we plug in our equations from above:
100 = 2(3x + 5) + 2(2x)
Distributing
100 = 6x + 10 + 4x
And now if you re-arrange the problem you can solve for X.
