T = tape deck
R = radio
1) 5T + 7R = 823
2) T = 2R - 2
Substitute the 2R-2 into equation 1) for T.
5(2R-2) + 7R = 823
10R - 10 + 7R = 823
17R - 10 = 823
17R = 833
Divide by 17:
R = 833/17
R = $49
Substitute 49 in for R in equation 2)
T = 2R - 2
T = 2(49) - 2
T = 98 - 2 = $96
