The first step in solving a word problem is to write an equation, which is simply to take the sentences and make them math. We will start with the first sentence.
G=cost to attend Gina's gym
x=number of months attending
G=40x+150
R=cost to attend Ridge's gym
x=number of months attending
R=20x+200
Now we need to see when they will cost the same, which means when they will be equal to each other, then solve for x.
40x+150=20x+200
-150 -150
40x=20x+50
-20x -20x
20x=50
/20 /20
x=50/20=5/2=2.5 months
