A proportion is where there is an equal vale between two fractions
Say that we have 1/2 and 2/4
Take a look at this box:
----------
| xx| |
| xx| |
| xx| |
| xx| |
----------
I have one out of two pieces scribbled in, or 1/2
Now how about this box:
----------
| xx| |
| xx| |
| xx| |
| xx| |
----------
| xx| |
| xx| |
| xx| |
| xx| |
----------
Here I have two out of four pieces scribbled in, or 2/4
Note, however, that the exact same amount is scribbled. That is what it means to be proportional: that despite however many pieces something is cut up into, the exact same amount is separate from the other.
We can create various proportions by multiplying by 1. What do I mean by that?
well, 2 divided by 2 equals 1, right? well that's how the earlier proportion worked:
2 * 1 = 2
2 * 2 = 4
So we can say 1/2 is proportional to 2/4
And we can do the same with 3/3, since 3 divided by 3 equals 1
3 * 1 = 3
3 * 2 = 6
3 * 2 = 6
So 1/2, 2/4, and 3/6 are all proportional to one another.
I hope this helps you understand them a bit better and maybe you can come up with some of your own from here.
