How do I create a system of equations for this?

Question

Fred walked a trail at 2 mph. Paul started 30 minutes later on the same trail and walked at a pace of 3 mph. Create a system of equations in which y respresents the distance walked in miles and x represents the time walked in hours. Explain what this means in terms of Paul catching of Fred.

I tried

y= 2x and y= 3x-30 but it didn't look right. Please help! Thank you!

f=2t for fred's distance

p =3(t-1/2) for paul's distance

Paul catches up

when 3t -3/2 = 2t

or when t = 1 1/2 hours

in 1.5 hours, Fred goes 3 miles

in 1.5 hours Paul goes 3(1.5-.5) = 3(1) = 3 miles

you prefer x and y, to f and p

y=2x and y=3(x-1/2) might be what you prefer
