Is sounds like this story you need to write is about environmentalism.  Your first decisions should be is this going to be non-fictional fiction (that is, is a person exploring/ going on an adventure of discovery (and with or without a guide)), or is it more non-fiction (more like a report being given)?

 

Natural resources are what we see and feel about us: wind, oceans, rivers, plains, hills and mountains, and forests untapped.

When these are tapped, they give us raw materials such as: ore, lumber, and grains.

Industries process/harvest these raw materials into usable goods.

However, manufacturing needs energy, so we develop ways to help lower energy by conserving, and recycling.

 

I hope these thoughts help you begin the backbone of your own story.
