the sum of three integers is 228. The second integer is 1 more than the first, and the third integer is 2 more than the first. Write an equation to determine the integers. Solve your equation. Show your work.

x + y +z = 228

x + 1 = y

x + 2 = z

 

Now that we know the variable values of y and z, we can replace them in the equation:

x + x + 1 + x + 2 = 228

We can combine the Xs  and constants to get:

3x + 3 = 228

We subtract three from both sides to get:

3x = 225

Divide both side by three to isolate X, and we get:

x = 75

Which means y = 76, and z = 77.

75 + 76 + 77 = 228
