Together, we build an iron base in mathematics and physics
Hi Abby:
Let giraffe's speed be G and Ostrich speed be O.
Then, from the first sentence: O = G + 7 . . . . . . (1)
Suppose they both run 8 miles. We uses the equation: T = D/S . . . . . . time = distance / speed
8/O = 7/G
Or 8G = 7O . . . . . . cross-multiplying
Substitute from (1): 8G = 7(G + 7)
8G = 7G + 49
G = 49 mph
Substitute back into (1): O = 56 mph
Check: Ostrich runs 8 miles in 8/56 = 1/7 hours
Giraffe runs 7 miles in 7/49 = 1/7 hours
