this question is to hard to do and i don't know how to get the answer. please help me and put me out of my misery

The number x is reduced by 25% and then halved...

 

Note that 25% OF x means (25/100)(x) = 0.25x

 

first:  reduce x by 25% means we subtract 0.25x from x...  x - 0.25x

2nd:  take half of the result:  (x-0.25x)/2

 

(x - 0.25x)/2 = 0.75x/2 = 0.375x
