First you need to remember the quadratic formula.
You can learn it as a song. "Do you know Pop Goes the Weasel"?
ex equals negative bee
plus or minus the square root
of bee squared minus four a see
all over two a
Now remember the standard form of a quadratic equation
Ax2 + Bx + C = 0
Now decide what A, B, and C are and plug them into the formula.
For this example A = 1, B = 3, and C = -7
x= -B ± √ (B2 - 4AC)
2A
= -3 ± √ (32 - 4•1•-7)
2•1
= -3 ± √ (9-(28))
2
= -3 ± √(37)
2
= -3 ± 6.08
2
= -1.5 ± 3.04
= 4.54 and -1.54
You can do your other problem the same way.
