Mixed word problem

Question

a candy maker wants to produce a box of candy containing caramels and cremes. they want each box to hold 30 pieces of candy  and cost $9.50 to produce. if the caramels cost $0.25 each to produce and the cremes cost $0.45 each to produce, how many of each should be in the box?

Let x = the number of caramels

Let y = the number of cremes

x + y = 30     y = 30 - x

.25x + .45y = 9.50

.25x + .45(30 - x) = 9.50

.25x + 13.50 - .45x = 9.50

-.20x = -4.00

x = 20

y = 30 - 20 = 10
