Hello, Josh
In order to do this problem follow the order of operations. So, let's start by evaluating the parenthesis inside the brackets: that becomes (5-2x). Now, inside the bracket we have [5-(5-2x)]= 5-5-2x. In order words change what inside the parenthesis into its opposite since you are subtracting. So, we get -2x. Rewriting it, we get:
3x-(8-x)= 4[-2x] Use the distributive property
3x-(8-x)= -8x Subtracting
3x-8+x = -8x Combining like terms
4x-8 = -8x Subtract 4x from both sides
-4x -4x
-8 = -12x Divide both sides by -12
8/12 = x Reducing by dividing by 4
2/3 = x.
I hope this helps out. Don't forget to check your answer, and thanks for posting.
