The attendance of a baseball game was 400 people. Student tickets cost $2 and adult tickets cost $3. Total ticket sales were $1050. How many tickets of each type were sold

A = Adult Tickets

 

S + A = 400

 

2S + 3A = 1050

 

 

use substitution or elimination to solve systems of  equation

 

Substitution:

S = 400-A

 

2(400-A) + 3A =1050

800-2A +3A = 1050 ====> simplify

A=1050-800=250

 

S = 400-250 = 150

 

There were 250 Adult tickets sold and 150 Student tickets sold.
