x2 - 23x - 144 = 0
 
then use the quadratic formula, and get 2 real irrational solutions.

b = -23
c = -144
 
x = [-b ± √(b2 - 4ac)] / (2a)
 
Just plug in the numbers and evaluate.  It is only arithmetic from this point on.
