Maria's credit card bill is  $420.50. Part of the bill is from the previous month's balance, part is new charges, and part is from a late fee of $39. The previous balance is  $172.40 less than the new charges. How much is the previous balance and how much is in new charges?

Let N = New Charges

Previous Charges = N - 172.40

420.50 = N + (N-172.40) + 39

 

2N=420.50-39+172.40 = 553.50

N= 276.75
