Dividing, remainder and quotient

A number divided by 42 gives the quotient n and the remainder 30. Define the quotient and the remainder if we divide that number with 14.

The number divided by 42 giving the quotient n and the remainder 30 is 42 times n + 30 = 42n+30. 

42n+30 can be written as

=42n+28+2

=14(3n+2)+2

Dividing this by 14 will give the quotient as 3n+2 and the remainder as 2.
