Scores on a dental anxiety scale range from 0 (no anxiety) to 20 (extreme anxiety). The scores are normally distributed with a mean of 11 and a standard deviation of 4. Find the z-score for the given score on this dental anxiety scale.

Basic stuff, and you won't need much help with this one.

Z = (X - μ) / σ

X = 5

μ = 11

σ = 4
Z = (5 - 11) / 4 = (-6)/4 = -3/2 or -1.5

See? No biggie...at least until the book confuses you on the Central Limit Theorem...
