A canoe and a motor boat travel toward each other from a distance of 70 miles. The motor boat moves 12 miles per hour faster than the canoe. The two bats pass after 2.5 hours.

v + 12 = speed of fast boat

t = travel time = 2.5

 

 

When they meet,

 

(v + 12)t = 70 - vt

(v + 12)(2.5) = 70 - 2.5v
