If it is (sqrt(8)/sqrt(3))+1 , then you must rationalize the first term only.
[sqrt(8)*sqrt(3)] / 3 + 1 =
sqrt(24)/3 + 1

If the denominator is (sqrt(3) + 1), then you must rationalize with (sqrt(3) - 1)
the fraction becomes
sqrt(8) * (sqrt(3) - 1)
---------------------------
9 - 1
or
sqrt(8) ( sqrt(3) - 1)
