So what you need to do is isolate x here.
5w + vx = y
Step one would be to subtract 5w:
5w + vx - 5w = y - 5w
vx = y - 5w
Step two now has us divide by v:
vx / v = (y - 5w) / v
x = y - 5w/v
Get used to doing this process, a good portion of algebra is all about isolating variables to solve equations.
