Hard algebra question.

Question

John has 180$ more than Bill.
If John gives Bill 41$ John will have twice as much money as Bill.
Now my question is: How much money did John have at the beginning
and how much money did Bill have at the beginning?

Answer 1

Let B = Bill's money and J = John's money

J = 180 + B

(J=41) = 2(B+41)

180+B-41 = 2B +  82

Collect terms:

180 - 41 -82 = B = 57

J = 237
