Each doll comes in a box that is 8 inches wide. There are 4 boxes in 1 carton. We want to order enough dolls to fill

two shelves. Each shelf is 72 inches long. How many cartons of dolls are needed to fill two shelves?

Since each box is 8 inches wide, 1 carton measures 32 inches. (8x4=32). Since each shelf is 72 inches, two shelves would measure 144 inches. Then divide 144 by 32 to find how many cartons will fill the two shelves. 144/32= 4.5 cartons.
