Lets call the number of ds games D, and the number of wii games W. Now Christopher has 3 times as many ds games as he does wii games so: D = 3W.
Also he spent $700 on D games @ $30 each and W games @ $50 each so:
30D + 50W = 700.
Since D = 3W we can replace D above and write:
30(3W) + 50(W) = 700 ⇒ 90W + 50W = 700 ⇒ 140W = 700, so W = 700/140 = 5
If he has 5 wii games, then he has 3x5 = 15 ds games:
Check:
$30 x 15 = $450
$50 x 5 = $250
$450 + $250 = $700
