So we have six less than, so we know that there's a -6.
We're doubling the number, so we have a *2
there's a quantity that we're doing things with, so we have parentheses.
Inside of the parentheses, we have x increasing by 4, so that's x + 4.
The rub is that "divided by 2" part. It feels like a dangling participle as it doesn't seem clear that it's dividing 4 by 2, x+4 by 2, or the entirety by 2. The only thing that makes a modicum of sense, though, is the latter, so we'll run with that.
If that's true, then that leaves us with 2(x + 4) - 6 / 2
That you're saying that it's a slope issue in your description makes me wonder if there's another way to write it, though:
2x + 4 / 2 - 6
Those two solutions are the ones that make the most amount of sense. I just wish the phrasing was a bit clearer so that we could tell witch one.
