I need help with my algebra homework i need to solve for 40 = 8x - 9 & 26 = 13/6x

40 = 8x - 9

 

Add 9 to both sides:

 

40+9 = 8x - 9 + 9

49 = 8x

 

Divide both sides by 8 to isolate the x:

 

49/8 = 8x/8

49/8 = x

I'm not sure if this is 26 = 13/(6x) or 26 = (13/6)x.  I'll solve both:

 

26 = 13/(6x)

 

Multiply both sides by x:

 

26x = 13x/(6x)

26x = 13/6

 

Divide both sides by 26:

 

26x/26 = 13/(6*26)

x = 1/12

 

26 = (13/6)x

 

Multiply both sides by 6/13:

 

26*(6/13) = (6/13)(13/6)x

12 = x
