How do you solve 3/25=0.12 without a calculator?

Every time I seem to set it up as a long division I end up getting 8.3 when the calculator says the answer should be 0.12

If you don't want to use long division, you can also use this approach:

 

3/25 = (3/25)*(4/4)

 

I'm just multiplying by 1 in a particular way, since 4/4 = 1. Then, multiply across the numerator and denominator:

 

(3/25)*(4/4) = (3*4)/(25*4) = 12/100

 

And then, just move the decimal point over twice since you're dividing by 100, and you've got 12/100 = 0.12.

The problem is 3 divided by 25.  You are doing it backwards.
