Love is in the air and flower shops are selling a lot of roses. Flo's Flower Shop sold a total of 1400 pink roses and red roses on Valentine's Day. Pink roses, x, sold for $2 each and red roses, y, were $30 per dozen. Flo made a total of $3250 selling pink and red roses. How many red roses did Flo sell?

Let x = the number of pink roses Flo sold

Let y = the number of red roses Flo sold

x + y = 1400     x = 1400 - y

30/12 = $2.50 (cost of each red rose)

2x + 2.5y = 3250

2(1400 - y) + 2.5y = 3250

2800 - 2y + 2.5y = 3250

.5y = 450

y = 900
