The question is in the Description.

A strange announcement was made on the radio about a local election with three candidates: Mrs Allan, Mr Baxter and Ms Campbell.
"mrs Allan beat Mr baxter by 1/8 of the total votes cast. Mr Baxter beat Ms Campbell by 1/7 of the total votes cast. The votes cast for Mrs Allan was 350 fewer than 3 times Ms Campbell's votes." How many votes did each candidate get?

JK K.

This is mostly a logic question.  We have three equations but 4 unknowns.   I won't tell you the answer - but you have to assume a) the total number of votes is a whole number b) the number of votes for each person is also a whole number (so 1/7 x total..   and also 1/8 x total...  are also whole numbers) and c) the total number of votes is >350....  So try it from there....  JK
