A 30g lead bullet at 30°C was fired at a speed of 240m/s into a large block of ice at 0°C, in which it embeds itself l. What quantity if ice is melted.

Mass pf bullet = 30*10 ^-3 kg

S = Sp heat capacity of Lead in J/kg*C

Change in temp = 30 C

Heat lost by bullet =30* 10 ^-3 *S * 30  J

Let M = Mass of ice melted L= Latent heat of fusion 

Heat required = Mass * latent heat of Fusion M = ? Equating 

 M = 30* 10 ^-3 *S * 30 / L

 

Substitute the values of S and L to get M
