Solving  2x²+9x+8=0 by completing the square method produces an equation of the form (x+h)²=k. Find h and k.  I have  tried breaking it down but it seems I cannot find a proper formula or the answer enough for me to understand. Please Help.

2x^2 + 9x + 8 = 0

 

2(x^2 + 9/2x     ) + 8 = 0

 

2(x^2 +9/2x + 81/16) + 8 - 81/16*2 = 0  <---- completing the square

 

2(x  + 9/4)^2 + 8 - 81/8 = 0

 

2( x + 9/4)^2 + (64-81)/8 = 0

 

2(x+9/4)^2 + -17/8 = 0

 

(h,k) = ( - 9/4,  -17/8)
