Manuel traveled 2 hours nonstop to Mexico, a total of 90 miles. He took a train part of the way, which averaged 60mph, and then took a bus the remaining distance, which averaged 30mph. How long was Manuel on the train?

t(60)+T'(30) = 90      and t + T' = 2

 

 

THen t = 2 - T'

 

(2-T')(60) + T'(30 ) = 90

 

120  - 60T' + 30T' = 90

 

30 - 30T' = 0

 

30 = 30T'

 

T' = 1 ----> t = 1

 

1 hour on the bus and 1 hour on the train
