2x +3 = x

You want to get like terms on each side of the equation so subtract x from each side to get

2x - x + 3 = x - x

simplify to get

x+3 = 0

then subtract 3 from each side

x + 3 - 3 = -3

so x = -3

now plug this value back in to the equation to check it.

so,

2x+3=x

or,

2x-x=-3

or, x=-3
