Let a = # adult tickets

Let c = # child tickets

 

If we sold 548 tickets total then:

 

a + c = 548

5a + 2.5c = 2460

 

Multiply the 1st equation by -2.5 and add equations

 

-2.5a - 2.5c = -1370

5a + 2.5c = 2460

a - 1090/2.5

a = 436 adult tickets

 

436 + c = 548
