how do you change a statement into an absolute value equation?

 I was wondering how you change a statement like, "any number that is 6 units away from 0" into an absolute value equation or inequality

Andrew M.

Note that your statement is basically the definition of absolute value.
Absolute value is the distance from zero expressed as a positive.

|2| = 2
|-2| = 2

The two numbers that are 6 units from zero are -6, and 6
|x| = 6
x = -6 or 6
