Katie invested a total of $5000, part a 4% simple interest and part at 5% simple interest. At the end of 1 year, the investments had earned $226 interest. How much was invested at each rate?

If we invest x at 4% then we invest 5000-x at 5%

 

226 = .04x + .05(5000-x)

 

Can you solve for x to find the amount invested at 4%,

then 5000-x to find amount invested at 5% ?
