A large rectangular movie screen in an IMAX theater has an area of 10,350 square feet. Find the dimensions of the screen if it is 25 feet longer than it is wide.

Begin, as always in a 'word' problem, by defining a variable. Let's let w = width; then length is 25+w, right?

Area is length times width = w(w+25) = 10350.

I believe that this gives you a quadratic equation. 

The usual procedure will be to distribute and rewrite it with all terms on the left side, and this = 0 on the right side.

You should try factoring as a technique to solve. If that's too puzzling, use the Quadratic formula.

If you get two answers but one of them is negative, discard that negative w value.
